The experiment with the EEE didn't go so well.
- Tried installing wine via adding the repository directly
- Then added a bunch more debian repositories from somewhere
- Did an upgrade all...
- Filled up the 4Gb disk and nuked the system
- Restored from DVD
- Sighed and went to bed
